Along road 13

The cabins along road 13

Nice place to escape for weekend rest. Far away from every civilisation, with nice good road to drive to. With amazingly fantastic view on every side. With many paths through the terrain around. There is probably many kilometres to walk, on every direction. But I think it is only seasonal, from May to November. The rest, the winter time everything here is under the snow and it is so difficult to reach own house. Not so far from here, around 15 to 20 kilometres is places one of the well know Ski district Myrkdalen. I love places like this one on the picture, but…. for me is so bored always spend the weekend time in the same place. Many of known Norwegians, almost everyone have a cabin in the mountains, and they spend his weekends in it. So, maybe the terrain around is so big, and they find always something different to do, some new paths to walk. But for me it is bored. I need always changing environment. Picture taken on some trip along road 13.

Road across mountains

This is what my eyes love, road across mountains

This is always amazing to be in the place like this one. Especially if someone love mountains like me. Norway is so difficult terrain. Without bridges and tunnels, and the mountains roads was so difficult to move across this country. It is still many places so difficult to reach. Roads up and down is so crazy, but driving many kilometres on top is amazing. With all the view on every direction, with the view which change after all curves. Feeling yourself somewhere between the earth and heaven. Driving in the autumn season have a additional spectacular attraction, the colours. Mountains are overgrown by the mosses, heather’s and special kind of grass. And it all changing the colours to brown yellow carpet. It is like invitation to take a long walk. Looks beautiful but is dangerous. Better is to walk along the paths. All the plants hold the water, sometimes deep and sometimes slushy. Enjoy with me the road across mountains. This is the road number 13 between Myrkdalen and Vikøy.

Landscape with railway tracks

From Hordaland, landscape with railway tracks

From Bergen, through the Hordaland is only one railway to Oslo. This is too difficult to build railways in terrain like here in Norway. Using the car is possibility to reach almost every point in Norway. There is many historical post roads, some of them only for walking, which was built many years ago. Some of them are really crazy roads. I have problem to imagine how the post was delivered. Now the old post roads are suitable to enjoy the landscape, driving or walking.

Railways through the mountains require a lot of tunnels and bridges. Railways in that terrain are expensive to build. For someone who want know more about this, I recommend to visit Flåm Railway museum. It perfectly shows how difficult was to build the little road from Flåm to Myrdal. In the era before dynamite, working by hands tools they build one meter of tunnel for one month. Crazy. Today it goes faster, but costs crazy money. On the picture below is just one (from many) place with amazing view which may enjoy the train passengers. Enjoy it also, on my picture. The mountain visible on the picture, it is Osterøy island. Norwegian landscape

Everything around me, Norwegian landscape

Because I live in Norway, because I am here more than six years, and because I travelled a lot through this country – the view like on the picture below does not make an impression. This view or similar or some better is everywhere around. It is hard to believe for some who does not visit Norway yet, but it is true. 1100 fjords surrounded by millions of  mountains, and again, and again. Of course I love this country and this landscape. In my beginning I started my exploration from walks through and along Bergen. I remember my first walk up to mount Ulriken. And it was terrible experience. Times go by, and walked every single day to form my condition. Later I travelled close to the city, not so far. Now I am so crazy. I may drive whole day and at the end climb on selected mountain, walk down and drive back home. Only for see this one unique view and of course take a photo. I am not the one, almost whole Norwegians do the same way.  On my path I meet hundreds of nice people. And this is beautiful.

Now after many years here only the spectacular view and spectacular landscape make me impressed. My Google Maps is full of stars with saved places I want to visit. I want to go to this places because I saw it on pictures from other people. I know it is always the same drive, climb and drive back but I think I love it.

So this is simple Norwegian landscape taken somewhere in Hordaland. Somewhere on my road to nowhere, just for pleasure to drive and enjoying the view around me. Somewhere on my road to discover another attraction to photograph and shows here. Have a nice evening everywhere.

Beautiful Hordaland

This is the beautiful Hordaland.

Probably because I live here in Hordaland province, for me is the most beautiful place. Ha ha. I know many beautiful places in Norway, in the other provinces. All of them are nice and have some amazing, breathtaking places. Many people said, and many think, Hordaland is the best. Because it is the Gate to the Fjords. And it is true. And I love the beautiful Hordaland. For my weekend trips I have no time to explore the other provinces, Most of my trips is along Hordaland. When I start few years ago, I began from Bergen. Later I photographed the area around Bergen, close to the city. And Sotra, my big love. The last year I started exploring the distant places, even the Lofoten more than 5000 kilometres from Bergen.  And I always go back with pleasure to the Hordaland. And on the picture below one more time you may see why….

Somewhere in Hordaland

Picture from somewhere in Hordaland

Saturday is the good time to posts more than one post. For whole week I was so busy and I have some arrears. On my ways through the Hordaland I took thousands of photos. Only the best I post on blog, but when I look in to the archive later, I still see some nice pictures. Of course I know where it was taken and the folders are described, but I am not always  want to write again about this places. Then, the title “Somewhere” is OK. This was on the North part of Hordaland on some autumn trip. So this is, Somewhere in Hordaland.

Yesterday around Modalen

From yesterday around Modalen short trip

I like Modalen. My trips always ended in this small village. Sometimes I drove the way to Dale, or from Dale to Mo. This time I tried to drive little bit far through the valley. And I discover many nice places to visit it again. I do not brought many pictures from that trip. The reason was weather. Of course I checked the weather report before I start, and it shows a little snow. I did not know that little snow means 10 to 20 cm of snow in some places in mountain and dark sky. It was crazy drive.  Mostly in car. So, before the next trip to this valley, I have wait for better weather. Probably til spring.

Below I present one picture to show you the mood. Yesterday around Modalen, in the snow under the dark sky.

Autumn colors in the sun

From my weekend trip, autumn color in the sun.

This weekend trip direction, Myrkdalen. This is the big center of winter sports. I visited it before, when everything is under construction. Yes it looks nice and probably it is nice place to ski. But I am looking for something different, I am looking for nice view and nature and landscape, and I am so surprised with what I found here. It looks like a place I have to visit more times. Today one of the first shot in the end of the valley, before I drive up to the mountains. Enjoy the autumn colors in the sun. Myrkdalen.

Driving along Norway

It is pleasure driving along Norway.

I may say it is pleasure and it is dangerous. Pleasure because the view and dangerous because the view. Sounds funny. In many many places the view from the road is so amazing and (even if it`s many places to stop and enjoy the view) in many other places is not possible to stop. I have saved on my map a lot of places I will want to enjoy and photograph, but it is difficult. The shot from the car is not always good enough to present. In some of that palaces I try to take a trip and find good position walking and climbing. Some other are still on my wish list. Probably the life is too short to do it everything. But driving along Norway is so nice. The most annoying is to meet on the road some driver who drive slowly and trying to enjoy the view.

Ok, this is one of the place on the road E16 I wanted to photograph. In the last five years I drove this way around hundred times. Because E16 is the road with big traffic and in this place everybody driving minimum 80 km per hour, the time for reaction is short. This is Osterøy, visible from other side of fjord. This is the wild part of Osterøy island. It looks like long rock wall vertical to the water. It is nice in every season, but like you may see on the picture balow, in autumn time is amazing.

Reflection with shadow

From the trip to Masfjorden, reflection and shadow

I like to visit the same places in different time. It always shows something different. In this place, Matre, I only take some break last year. Probably I drove back from some trip around Sognefjorden. From the road it was looking like nice place. And of course I was so surprised. So, this year I visit this place again. Also was calm weather and amazing reflection on Masfjorden water. But this time I was there early in the day, and the light was different.

Here is the picture from Last year:

And here is what I saw this year. Reflection with shadow.
